As per the health officials in Maharashtra, 10 new instances of the Delta Plus Covid variant have been recorded, bringing the total number of infected to 76, with Ratnagiri and Jalgaon emerging as the worst-affected districts. The number of new cases has increased from 66 on Friday, with 5 deaths so far. The state administration has authorised the formation of Rapid Response Teams at the district level and a major contact tracing operation in response to the surge in Delta Plus cases.

India recorded 32,937 new COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours and 417 additional fatalities as per the latest health update. The active caseload in the country is presently 3,81,947, the lowest in 145 days. Active cases account for 1.18 per cent of all cases, the lowest level since March 2020. On a good note, India has been able to achieve the highest coronavirus vaccination rate ever in a day. The Union Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that India has provided more than 88.13 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses in the previous 24 hours, the highest level of immunisation ever attained in a single day.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the global Covid-19 caseload has exceeded 207.7 million, with 4.37 million fatalities and 4.70 billion vaccines. With 36,884,777 total cases and 622,292 fatalities, the United States remains the worst-affected country. In terms of infections, India ranks second with 32,225,513 cases.
