Covid-19 Live Updates: Fear Of Third Wave Lingers, But Cases Continue To Decline

On August 15, Karnataka reported 1,431 new coronavirus infections. According to the state health department's report, there are 22,497 current cases in the state. On Sunday, the state's coronavirus claimed the lives of 21 people, with Dakshina Kannada accounting for four of them and Bengaluru Urban and Hassan each accounting for three. With this, the total number of people killed has increased to 36,979.

According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 36,083 new COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours, bringing the daily positivity rate to 1.88 per cent. There have been 37,927 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 3,13,76,015. The recovery rate has already reached 97.46%. Throughout the previous 24 hours, 493 people have died in the country. The overall number of active cases has increased to 3,85,336 cases, accounting for 1.20 per cent of all cases. On a positive note, there was a dip in the number of total cases in India as vaccine coverage passed the 54 crore level.

As per the data by Johns Hopkins University, the global tally of the Covid-19 caseload has topped million 207 million, while the deaths have surpassed 4.36 million, and vaccinations soared to 4.58 billion. The US continues to be the worst- country with 36,669,696 total cases and 621,605 deaths. India stands at number two in terms of infections, with 32,192,576 cases and 431,225 deaths.
