Amid a sudden spike in the daily cases of Coronavirus infection, China announced the complete lockdown of one of its cities with 4.5 million people in the southern province of Fujian. The decision comes after a dozen if cases related to the Delta variant of COVIS-19 were detected from the city. According to the updated data, a total of 103 cases were registered from three cities in China so far. The new restrictions comes into force less than a month after the country fought off the worst virus outbreak since the emergence ofCOVID-19 in Wuhan. "Starting Tuesday, all kindergartens, primary and middle schools in Xiamen will remain shut, and students have been asked to join the school closes from home (online)," an official quoted as saying.
Delta variant of COVID-19 is one of the deadliest and most contagious strains of the virus. It is also responsible for the ferocious second wave of COVID-19 in India.
