Although India's overall Covid positivity rate is declining, daily positivity cases are still over 10 per cent in some states, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said on Saturday emphasising that the "second wave of Covid-19 is not yet over." While chairing a meeting in New Dehi, he also directed the states to ensure strict adherence to the Covid protocols to avoid spread of the virus, especially the eight states having tourist destinations and hill stations. Bhalla pointed out the five-fold strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccinate and Covid appropriate behaviour, which has been laid out in Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order dated June 29 this year. The meeting was called after media reported blatant disregard of Covid appropriate behaviour in hill stations and other tourist locations.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar also sounded a note of caution that people have already become careless in all tourist places. He warned that the third wave of the Covid pandemic would surely hit us if people let their guard down and do not follow Covid safety protocols. He was speaking to reporters after reviewing Covid preparations in Davangere district in Karnataka.

" it can be almost certain that a third wave can hit us and even the possibility of a fourth wave can't be ruled out if people continue to behave carelessly," the minister said, and appealed to people to follow the Covid safety protocols.
