Covid Live Updates: No Lambda Covid Variant Cases Found In India Yet

In a recent press conference, NITI Aayog member Dr V.K. Paul stated that so far, zero cases of the lambda variant of Covid-19 have been reported in India.

According to the government, no cases of the Lambda strain of Covid-19 have been detected in India thus far. At a press briefing, NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Paul said lambda is a variation of interest, so its significance is still being explored. He said during the conference, "As far as we know it has not entered our country, we have not detected this variant in our country." Dr Paul also commented that in the cases of the Kappa variant, it was prevalent in the country even during February and March, but in much lower intensity, and has mostly been replaced by the Delta variant.

As for the data, India is still in second place in the list of worst-hit countries with 30,752,950 cases according to the data released by the John Hopkins University. Among the countries with a death toll of more than 100,000, India is at the top with 405,939 deaths. The entire worldwide Covid-19 caseload has surpassed 185.9 million, with over 4 million fatalities and over 3.38 billion vaccines administered.
