There is no respite in the spread of Covid in the southern states of Kerala and Karataka. According to a news agency report, in the past 24 hours, Karnataka reported 24,266 new cases and 32 deaths, while Kerala logged 20,367 cases and 139 deaths. Kerala has been the hotspot of Covid in India, accounting for as high as 50 per cent of the total daily cases in the country. Worldwide, India has the second highest number of Covid cases, just next to the US.
According to the Johns Hopkins University's latest update on Sunday morning, the current global caseload stood at 202,183,140, while death toll stood and vaccination tally were recorded at 4,285,440 and 4,376,808,997, respectively. The US continues has the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 35,738,154 and 616,713, respectively. India follows in the second place in terms of infections, with 31,895,385 cases. With 562,752 fatalities, Brazil has the second highest number of deaths.
