Children's Day 2014: Bal Swachh Mission to spread awareness about cleanliness in kids

It has been just a month over since the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by PM Narendra Modi and it has already become a huge success with celebrities participating in the mission and nominating their millions of fans to take the mission forward. Today, on the occasion of Children's Day, the ministry of drinking water & sanitation has decided to launch another mission targeting children for improved awareness about sanitation. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandi, current chief minister of Maharashta Devendra Fadnavis were present at the launch.

Known as the Bal Swachh Mission, the campaign is designed on the lines of the Swachhta Abhiyan but with an aim to imbibe the importance of hygiene and sanitation among children. To make it interesting, deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi says, the mission will go on for six days (starting from today), with each day having a different theme that revolves around children's life. November 14- Cleaning schools: The mission begins today with organisation of a cleanliness drive in school premises, where children tend to spend most of their time during the day. The drive will be headed by school and anganwadi teachers, workers and other school staff.

November 15:Cleaning surroundings: Tomorrow, the drive will be extended to cleaning the surroundings. Children will help cleaning playgrounds and their school campus.

November 16 -Cleaning -self: This day will focus on making children aware about personal hygiene and healthy habits like washing hands before a meal, cleaning feet and cutting nails.

November 17 -Cleaning food: Eating unhealthy, unhygienic foods is one of the main reasons kids fall sick and miss their school. On this day, teachers will highlight the importance of eating hygienic food. The health effects of eating avoiding unhygienic and fast food will also be highlighted. November 18: Cleaning water: This day will spread awareness about drinking water from clean and hygienic sources. The effects of water contamination will be highlighted.

November 19 -Cleaning toilets: The mission will conclude on the World Toilet Day to be observed on November 19. School principals will analyse the status of school restrooms and toilets. Experts will generate awareness about health and environmental hazards of defecation in open spaces.
