Chikungunya Update In Maharashtra: State Sets Up Rapid Response Team Amid Case Surge
Chikungunya Fever in Maharashtra: In light of the rising incidences of chikungunya cases in Pune, the state has decided to set up a rapid response team in the battle against the disease. The state has also circulated updated guidelines by the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) to manage chikungunya fever outbreak better. Chikungunya fever has been causing several side effects as pre reports. For instance, neurological complications or hyperpigmentation or a chikungunya nose. The state has also appealed to clinicians to send out samples for testing to NIV and B J Government Medical College (BJMC).
In the last couple of months, Pune has reported many cases of chikungunya fever. As per reports by some physicians in the city, there have been cases oof mortality due to neurological complications of people over 65 people. Experts say that there is no specific antiviral drug for Chikungunya like there is for dengue fever hence, proper management of cases is of utmost importance. This is why a rapid response team has been set up by the state.
An appeal has also been made to doctors from government authorities to promptly report unusual aspects of chikungunya fever, people experiencing co-infections like swine flu or dengue. They have also appealed clinicians to take detailed reports of patient history, blood samples and transport in cold chains to BJMC and NIV.
