In the wake of rapidly spreading bird flu in Chandigarh, the health department ramped up culling of geese to further prevent the spread of the disease. However, a few employees started experiencing flu like symptoms. As a precautionary measure, the UT health department dispatched their blood samples to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, New Delhi. They have been tested negative for the disease. The results for two more samples are awaited and are expected on Tuesday. In a meeting held Monday, the UT administration decided to maintain and share a daily report with the central government. The meeting between health officials from Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana was attended by doctors from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and from other hospitals. As a precautionary measure, the officials have deployed a central team, comprising health experts and technicians in the afflicted area. They have been provided with a stock of flu drugs and diagnostic kits in the city.
