There is a lot to celebrate this June Father s Day and International Yoga Day. The International Yoga Day was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and recognized by the United Nations. Preparations for the day were in full swing last year and the celebrations were held at Delhi s Rajpath. The movement was quite widespread with over 100 countries participating in it. The first International Yoga Day at Rajpath saw two Guinness World Records being set for the largest number of participants in a yoga lesson at a single venue and for the most number of nationalities in a yoga lesson.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that he would attend the second International Yoga Day programme at Chandigarh. On June 21, International Day of Yoga, I will join a programme in Chandigarh to practice yoga with them, he said in his radio address 'Mann Ki Baat'. He stressed that prevention was better than cure and Yoga Day is not merely an event, it inspires to include it in our daily routine for 20-30 minutes. Poor families have to spend too much for health issues. But there is no cost involved in being healthy, Modi added. Bollywood celebs tell us how yoga changed their life.
The International Yoga Day was declared to be internationally recognised by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014.Prime Minister suggested the date, June 21, in his address to the UN General Assembly. In a statement UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, Yoga can contribute to resilience against non-communicable diseases. Yoga can bring communities together in an inclusive manner that generates respect. Yoga is a sport that can contribute to development and peace. Yoga can even help people in emergency situations to find relief from stress.
