Los Angeles, December 11: The importance of breastfeeding cannot be stressed enough. It is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. During an interview with Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014 , Johansson, who gave birth to daughter Rose Dauriac in September, shared how she shed her post-pregnancy pounds, reports eonline.com. Breastfeeding is the best way to get back in shape. I do the whole bit. I'm nursing and I love it, the 30-year-old said.

Here is how breastfeeding helps the mother:

It helps to lose weight: During pregnancy you put on a lot of weight and there is a constant process of fat accumulation that happens inside the body. This process is also indicative of the fact that your body is preparing for the lactation phase post-delivery. So, one of the best ways to get rid of all that weight after child birth is to breastfeed. Breastfeeding ensures that the fat deposits stored in different parts of the body is utilised for the production of breast milk.

It lowers risk of conception: Continuous breastfeeding also lowers the risk of conception soon after delivery by delaying menstruation. Here are six other ways in which breastfeeding can help a new mum cope with postpartum stress.
