CBFC gives ‘A’ certificate to ‘Phullu’, a movie on menstruation

If girls below the age of 18 menstruate, how can it be a topic relevant to only 18+?

A socially relevant topic ‘menstruation’ is what Abhishek Saxena’s movie ‘Phullu is all about and it gets an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. Because ‘SANSKAR’! Yes! You read it right because this films actively talks about the problems faced by women all across the country it is has come under the filter of CBFC. But first, let’s take a look at the statistics. According to giveher5.org 80%of the girls in India can’t afford sanitary protection. Their period forces them to miss five days every month. Of the 600 million females in India, 400 million struggle every month to go to school or work because of their periods. There have been horrendous revelations where we came to know that so many women in India do not have access to clean, sanitary pads and have to use things like soiled clothes, rags, hay, etc. during periods. And here a movie that clearly in its trailer itself shows how much serious this problem is in our country is being given an ‘A’ certificate? Like for what? Because women bleeding is a taboo? Abhishek Saxena’s ‘Phullu’ helps spread awareness about the stigma attached to this subject amongst everyone. Especially the rural areas where the stigma attached is so strong that men don’t even know about it because of lack of awareness. Being a woman it only makes me ashamed of the fact that a biological process that every female goes through every month right from the age of 12 or 13 has become a forbidden subject and has got an adult certificate.
The movie is to come out tomorrow that is 16th of June and seeing such a great movie fall in the category of films like ‘Grand Masti’ and ‘Jism 2’ is only breaking hearts. Here’s the trailer, watch and only then you’ll understand why CBFC’s decision is so silly:

CBFC decision doesn’t seem to have gone down well with twitteratti too. Check a few tweets: Also Read - Early menstruation linked to hot flushes and night sweats later at menopause

Can someone plz check if the Censor Board is giving out ratings or grades? Why are only the good films getting an A? #Phullu

We had done an FB Live with Dia Mirza who has is a brand ambassador of giveher5.org where the actress speaks strongly about menstrual problems young girls in rural India face, here’s the video:

What do you think? Do you feel this movie should’ve deserved an ‘A’ certificate? If girls below the age of 18 menstruate, how can it be a topic relevant to only the 18+? Let us know your views in the comments section.
