On Wednesday the Punjab government claimed that the number of cancer cases in the state is not as high as it has been projected in the last few years. The state health minister Madan Mohan Mittal said that though cancer was a matter for concern the numbers weren’t higher than other states in the country. ‘The health department had conducted a door-to-door survey of the entire population of Faridkot district on pilot basis and reached the conclusion that there are not more than 130 per lakh suspected cancer patients in the districts’ he said.
