J P Nadda, the Health Minister launches National Tobacco Quit line, 1800112356, today on the eve of World No Tobacco Day which aims at counseling and guiding tobacco addicts. 52.3% of the Indian population is open to secondhand smoke at home, 29.9% at workplace and 29% at public places, according to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS-India 2010) released recently. Passive smoking is as injurious to health as is active smoking. With the air quality degrading, it is high time that the level of smoking tobacco is cut down.
