In a freak mishap on Thursday early morning, the driver of a private bus died after he suffered heart attack while at the wheel. The bus swerved and dashed an auto rickshaw leaving its four occupants severely injured.
According to the police, the bus bearing registration number MH12 RA 9900 was on Sasanenagar Road in Hadapsar. The accident took place at 6:30am.
The driver of the bus got a sudden cardiac arrest and lost control over the vehicle. The vehicle swerved in the dashed an auto rickshaw (MH12DT 6037), with four occupants, and pushed it to some distance before coming to a halt.
While the driver of the bus was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, the four occupants three passengers and the autorickshaw driver have been admitted to the intensive care unit at Yash Hospital in Hadapsar. They have suffered serious injuries and multiple fractures.
The bus driver has been identified as Mohammad Sharif Sheikh (50), a resident of Laxminagar, Nana Peth. Auto rickshaw driver Anis Mansoor and his three passengers are Noormohammad Deshmukh (45), Abhishek Naik (16), and Shabbir Sheikh (71).
Police said that the driver got the attack near Ganga Niwas when the bus was on its way to Hadapsar. There was no passenger in the bus.
Savita Dhamdere, assistant police inspector, Hadapsar police station said, "We got the call at 6:40am. When we reached the spot within 10 minutes, the driver was unconscious. We took the four auto rickshaw passengers to Yash Hospital immediately."
A doctor at the Yash Hospital said, "All the patients have been kept in the intensive care unit (ICU), as they had suffered head injuries and multiple fractures. They have been kept under observation for the next 24 hours."
