Brazil's President To Undergo A Second Surgery For Brain Bleed A Day After An Emergency Procedure
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is set to undergo another brain surgery a day after he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for an emergency procedure, according to Reuters report. President Lula suffered a serious injury in his head after he fell in his bathroom at the Presidential residence in the capital of Brazil. During the first emergency surgery, Lula received several stitches to address the injury. After the surgery he was kept in the ICU for 48 hours. The doctors emphasized that he was recovering and is in a lucid state.
Lula was rushed to he emergency room overnight, on Tuesday for the emergency surgery.
According to reports from his doctors, Lula underwent physiotherapy and walked after the procedure. He also received visits from his family members, said the doctors in a statement to the media. Doctors also noted that he had "spent the day well" and is currently in a good condition.
After the fall in his bathroom, Lula suffered bleeding on the surface of his brain. Reports say that the second surgery is required in order to address this health issue.
As per news reports, the Doctors at the Sirio-Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, announced on Wednesday that the procedure will be minimally invasive and that it would take place the following morning.
The procedure is termed, middle meningeal artery embolisation. It allows doctors to enter the blood vessels of the patient by using small tubes. When there is a brain bleed, doctors perform a surgery to insert a blockage in order to stop the bleeding. In this surgery too, medical professionals at the Sirio-Libanes hospital will insert a blockage in the blood vessels to prevent further bleeding from the artery that is located outside of the brain.
