Brain Stroke In Men Above 70: Risk Factors and Symptoms To Watch Out For

A brain stroke happens when the blood flow to a part of the brain gets disrupted, either by a blockage (known as an ischemic stroke) or by a vessel breaking (called a hemorrhagic stroke). This interruption can damage brain cells, leading to loss of functions that may cause serious disabilities or even be fatal. For men over 70, the chances of encountering a stroke significantly rise due to multiple risk factors that build up with age.

Main Risk Factors for Stroke in Older Men

Several key risk factors contribute to the increased risk of stroke for men in this age range, such as:

  1. High Blood Pressure: This is the primary cause of strokes, making regular checks a must.
  2. Diabetes: This illness can harm blood vessels, raising the chance of a stroke.
  3. Heart Problems: A history of heart complications can pave the way for strokes.
  4. High Cholesterol: Elevated cholesterol can lead to artery blockage, impeding blood flow.
  5. Lifestyle Choices: Habits like smoking, heavy drinking, and lack of exercise sharply increase stroke risk.
