Bill Gates pledges $500 million for fight against deadly diseases like malaria

The former CEO of Microsoft Bill Gates, pledged Sunday to donate more than $500 million to fight several deadly disease including malaria, pneumonia, parasitic infections, diarrheal diseases, which are prevalent in the developing world.

The philanthropist, who recently supported UN agencies and international organisations to contain the Ebola outbreak, by contributing $50 million funding, said that the ongoing Ebola outbreak is a call to action and draws attention to the global need of strengthening the efforts to stay ahead of diseases like dengue fever and drug-resistant malaria. Out of the $500 million, about $150 million will be donated to the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative to boost the development of malarial vaccines, and around $29 million will be used to support the efforts of eliminating malaria taken up by the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Gates also committed that his foundation will be advancing the annual funding for malaria by 30 per cent.
