In a series of ban that occurred this month in Maharashtra, here s a new addition to the list. Although the sale of gutka in Maharashtra has been banned in July 2012, it will now be declared as a non-bailable offence. Read about why gutka ban is working, but isn t enough.
Girish Bapat, Maharashtra Food and Drug Minister made the remark on being asked that the sale of gutka is still continuing in the state by Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan, a Congress leader. The congress leader raised the question in the Question Hour of the state assembly. According to WHO study, gutka ban is good for India s youth.
The Food Minister further stated that around Rs 32 crore gutka has been seized by the state police. And the state police have already received directives to book offenders under IPC Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison).
