Bengali actor Pijush Ganguly, died in Kolkata, the doctors have confirmed. He had met an accident recently and the cause of death cited is multiple organ failure. He is survived by his wife and son. Ganguly was rushed to the Belle Vue Clinic with multiple injuries after his car collided head-on with a bus in Howrah on October 20.
'He died of multiple organ failure in the early Sunday,' said a doctor. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock at Ganguly's demise. 'Shocked and saddened that actor Pijush Ganguly died. He was close to us and very talented. My condolences to his family,' said Banerjee.
'The doctors tried everything they could. But unfortunately they could not save him. Since yesterday (Saturday) his condition was critical,' said city mayor Sovon Chatterjee who rushed to the hospital early in the morning.
Ganguly acted in several critically-acclaimed movies including Aparna Sen-directed "Goynar Baksho" and Srijit Mukherjee's "Autograph".
Pijush started his career at Nabard as an employee, but later decided to pursue his passion for acting by doing theatre. He acted in several plays and has been a prominent personality in the theatre industry in Kolkata. He has worked with notable personalities like Bibhas Chakraborty, Bratya Basu, Ramprasad Banik and Arun Mukherjee. He is also a renowned name in the TV industry and has to his credit a number of telefilms he has acted in. He was also the host on the teleseries Ma vs. Bouma. In his career spanning over 20 years, he has been a part of many popular plays, television series and movies.
