According to the TOI, the 25-year-old Bandra acid attack victim Preeti Rathiwas shifted to Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines for her first surgery. She will undergo a procedure to fix the damage caused to the food pipe by acid attack. Till now she was being treated at the ICU of Masina Hospital where the doctors had performed a gastroscopy to determine the extent of damage. They found a gap between the wind pipe and food pipe. Since they don t have the expertise to carry out such a complicated surgery, she has been moved to Bombay Hospital. The victim s family confirmed the course of events and she had she had been moved. A family member said, Her burns are deep and we ve been told that the damage to her food pipe is significant.
Preeti Rathi had come to Mumbai to join duty as a nurse in the Naval hospital when she suffered an acid attack at Bandra station. She sustained severe burns to her face, neck, chest and arms and was critical for a few days after admission. Doctors treated her for her injuries but she had lost vision in her right eye. While she subsequently regained consciousness and could communicate only with written notes, she pleaded with the doctors to help restore her vision. She underwent stem cell therapy, where cells from her left eye were used to restore vision in her right eye.
