A group of special children walked to create awareness about autistic children and highlight that their abilities can be channelized in a productive manner. The walk was to increase awareness about the increasing number of children being diagnosed for autism every year and dearth of schools catering to children suffering from the syndrome.

The initiative was taken by the 'AttachAvi Foundation' and 'The Hans Foundation.' It was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. 'We all have deficiencies in us. We forget to accept them at times. It will be an honour for me to work for such a noble cause,' Dikshit said.

Autism is a group of complex disorders of brain development that presents with varying degrees of impairment in social interaction, communication with others and repetitive behavioral patterns. It occurs in all racial, ethnic and social groups and is four times more common in boys than girls. It is a spectrum disorder which means it manifests with a varying degree of severity and in different ways in different individuals. The symptoms are varied and children may be mildly affected or have severe disability.
