Assam flood update: With 85 lives lost and more than 18 lakh people affected, Assam, still grapples with heavy rainfall and flood even though official reports from Monday stated that the situation has improved. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), six more people lost their lives on Monday and 27 districts are submerged under water. Among the 6 new deaths reported, two of them hailed from Bilasipara and Agamoni revenue circles of Dhubri district. ASDMA reported 18,80,700 as the exact number of displaced people in the state across 27 districts.

Regions Affected In The State

ASDMA reported to media that the worst affected district in Assam is Dhubri, with 4.75 lakh people affected by flood. This is followed by Cachar district where more than 2.01 lakh people have been affected. The third worst hit district is Barpeta with almost 1.36 lakh people affected. They also reported that at present, 3,154 village are submerged under water. Reports of 49,014.06 hectares crop area damage along with the damage of roads, bridges, embankments and other infrastructures across the state.

Domestic animals of the regions have also been affected due to widespread flooding. Reports say, more than 15,18,600 domestic animals and poultry have suffered and among the wild animals, 137 animals have died inside Kaziranga National Park. The total tally was recorded at 129 as of Sunday.

  1. 543 relief camps and relief distribution centres have been set up by the administration in 25 districts. These camps are at present taking care of 3,45,500 displaced people.
  2. The civil administration, SDRF, NDRF and emergency services personnel from the state have recued almost 350 from affected regions.
  3. 4,585.71 quintals of rice, 248.98 quintals of salt, 841.14 quintals of dal, and 24,113.64 litres of mustard oil has been distributed to the flood victims by the authorities.
