Asian Heart Institute to provide medical assistance during 14th edition of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017.The Asian Heart Institute (AHI) has been the preferred medical partner for the Mumbai Marathon for the past thirteen years in succession. As the Mumbai Marathon draws closer, a dedicated team at AHI is gearing up for the grand event to be held on January 15, 2017.

  • This year from AHI, 85 rehabilitated cardiac patients (1 full marathoner, 6 half marathoners and 78 dream runners) are participating in the marathon. In addition there are 6 doctors running the half marathon.
  • As an extension of its Mumbai Heart Healthy city initiative, AHI also conducted a familiarisation program for a contingent of 33 Mumbai policemen who will be participating in the dream run. They were given route map and race day orientation along with fitness, and dietary guidance.
  • Taking its commitment towards making Mumbai a heart healthy city a step forward, Asian Heart Institute (AHI) recently trained over 40 marathon volunteers, in Cardio-pulmonary-resuscitation (CPR). CPR is an emergency procedure in which a person presses up and down on the casualty s chest (chest compressions) and gives them a series of rescue breaths to help save their life when they are in cardiac arrest. It's a life skill that keeps blood flowing to the brain until the heart can be restarted. Research suggests that the sooner that someone starts CPR after a person collapses, the more likely the victim is to survive. CPR training is a routine requirement at world class events such as the Boston marathon.

Looking back at this long and satisfying association, Dr. Ramakanta Panda, Vice Chairman, Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeon, Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai says, We are proud to partner with Mumbai Marathon for the fourteenth consecutive year. Like every year, we are well equipped to handle any kind of medical emergency in the shortest time possible. The whole team at the AHI is more than glad to contribute state-of-the-art facilities and services for the marathoners.
