In a country where road accidents are one of the leading cause of death, it does take some star-power to kick-start the change. In this case super star Amitabh Bachchan has taken the onus upon himself to promote road safety in Maharashtra.
After a month long load safety awareness drive conducted by the Thane police, Bachchan said, 'When I can promote tourism in Gujarat, I can very well promote road safety awareness in Maharashtra.'
Apart from that he also added that in India, as compared to other countries where people undergo vigorous testing before they are issued a licence people get a licence to drive within minutes.
He urged the authorities to take a serious note of the regulations and adhere to the road safety requirement very strictly. Apart from that he also added that parents should not give youngsters vehicles until they attained their requisite age.
Finally he said that he was not fluent in Marathi but will make it a point to learn the language in order to promote road safety in Maharashtra.
