ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: Jose Mourinho takes the plunge

jose mourinhThe Special One took the Ice-Bucket Challenge after being nominated by Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Lebo Mohuba's challenge and in turn nominated his daughter Matilde, Bryan Adams and James McAvoy. Luiz Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas, Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Darren Fletcher, Neymar and Lionel Messi are some of the others from the footballing world that have taken the challenge till now.

What is ALS?

ALS is a fatal disease where people lose muscle control, including the ability to speak, eat or even breathe. Life expectancy after being diagnosed is between 2-5 years and current treatment can only extend it by a few months.

How did it start?

The ALS Association credits Pete Frates, a former Boston College baseball player for making the challenge popular. He's been living with the disease since 2012, and it has become a phenomenon since Frates took the challenge at the end of last month.

How much money has it raised?

The ALS association wrote on its website: 'As of Thursday, August 21, The ALS Association has received $41.8 million in donations compared to $2.1 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 21). These donations have come from existing donors and 739,275 new donors to The Association.'

Has it helped raise awareness?
