KasabRecently there were a spate of media reports that suggested that Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks had somehow contracted dengue despite being lodged in a completely secure ‘anda’ cell. The latest reports suggested that the terrorist has recovered from the fever he had contracted four days ago and he tested negative for dengue and malaria.  Also Read - Previous exposure to dengue may provide some immunity against COVID-19

Conducted by doctors from JJ hospital the tests were negative. Dean of JJ Hospital Dr T P Lahane too confirmed that there was no dengue scare in the prison. ‘My doctors go to Arthur Road Jail every day to check on the prisoners. Kasab was diagnosed with fever four days ago and has been on treatment. He is fine now. There has been no dengue reported,’ Lahane said. Also Read - Suffering from dengue fever? Dengue refers to a type of fever which is caused by the dengue virus. It is transmitted by mosquitoes and more of a tropical disease. Some common symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains and skin rash. There is no vaccine for dengue and the only way to reduce infections is to improve hygiene levels so as to prevent mosquito-bites and/or prevent mosquitoes from breeding. The disease kills over five thousand Indians every year and is a seasonal threat, particularly during the monsoon seasons.
