World Diabetes Day is commemorated on 14th November every year to create awareness about diabetes along with access to right treatment and care. On this day, MEMS 108 highlights the significance of managing diabetic emergencies efficiently and effectively. Diabetic Emergencies include Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia. Hypoglycemia is an emergency condition for diabetic patients when the blood sugar levels drop down below the normal levels and needs to be addressed immediately. Early detection and immediate response will definitely have a better outcome in an emergency situation. By using blood glucose check strips present in ambulance, hypoglycemia is detected immediately and thus treatment is initiated.

MEMS 108 attended 10323 emergency diabetic patients from January 2014 to October 2017 and 2850 diabetic patients from November 2016 to October 2017.

Causes dosDr. Dnyaneshwar Shelke, COO, MEMS 108 recommends, Diabetes is as much an emergency disease as any other. Diabetic Emergency cases handled by MEMS include patients with Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia. MEMS have served over 1931987 emergency patients since launch 26th January 2014 till 4 Nov 2017. About one quarter of people with diabetes are not aware that they have Diabetes. Often people stay in pre-diabetic stage for long as 10 years and this can be dangerous as there are no symptoms at all. The only way to stay on top of the disease is to run blood sugar tests regularly and have a healthy diet along with regular physical activity .
