The latest episode of Satyamev Jayate which aired today, highlighted the fact that TB is a dreaded disease and can easily spread from one person to other and can advance in a short time. Aamir Khan, who spoke to various doctors during the show, broke down the medical jargon and simplified the spread of TB in true Bollywood style. Here's how he explained it.

He said that just like in a Bollywood film, the hero beats up the villain and romances the heroine but then the villain (in this case TB) comes back after getting even stronger and powerful. This means the hero needs more strength to fight him. Even if he defeats him, there are chances he will come back with more intensity to fight out the hero this time. Now the hero perhaps needs weapons to fight him as he is not strong enough to fight the villain.

Similarly, a person who gets TB, he goes to the doctor and gets medication for the same. Mid-way, if he leaves the dosage incomplete thinking he is fine now, the TB can aggravate to the next level. It can advance to MDR TB which is multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. This means, the bacteria get stronger and become resistant to that dosage so now he needs a stronger medication to cure him of the disease. Not just this, tuberculosis gets even worse and can proceed to XDR or extremely drug resistant TB and further to TDR totally drug resistant TB. When this happens, either the dosage is so high that it has various side-effects, or the bacteria has become so strong that the medication has no effect on it now.

In order to prevent this, Aamir and the doctors advise to keep the treatment on until the doctors ask you to stop the dosage. This will keep it in control and prevent TB from advancing to the next stage.
