Skincare for the 40s and beyond

Keep your skin moistened: Hydration is the key, so keep your skin hydrated all the time. As women get older their skin starts to lose its moisture. This is why products that steal moisture from the skin are the most obvious evil. Many women fail to understand that the different oil controlling soap bars or face washes which they use, rub off the natural moisture from their face and leads to dehydration. A face devoid of its natural moisture looks pale, dull and blemished. So, when you hit your 40s make sure to replace your oils controlling soap bars and face washes with creamy and moisturising ones. Choose thick cream based moisturisers that work wonders for ageing skin. Read to know if you should go for facials if you suffer from diabetes.

Treat acne with care: At your 40s there are more chances of experiencing acne outbursts. Yes, adult acne is a thing. Hormonal changes lead to excess sebum production causing these breakouts. A lot of women tend to get acne on their chin and end up using over the counter anti-acne products which do them no good. One should understand that the acne in your 40s is different from the ones you got in your 20s. Stay away from products that are harsh on your skin. Avoid alcohol based toners. Avoid scrubbing your face as they only make acne worse. Instead use a gentle exfoliator twice a week. Here are eight steps to treat adult acne.

Skincare should not just stop with facial care: Remember in your 40s you cannot afford to be lax with your skincare and just taking care of your face with some good and effective products is not enough. In fact, you should be paying equal attention to those parts of your skin that remain covered. Lathering soap and taking a quick bath is not enough anymore. Invest in a good body care routine with the right products, include some bath oils and exfoliates that would keep your body s skin soft and moistened.

Use products in the right order: Even if you have the best of the things with you the right products, moisturisers and essential oils if you aren t using them the right way, you might fail to see results. It is important to apply products in the right order. A lot of people just apply their serums after moisturizer or apply their sunscreen before their creams and serums. This is wrong. Always follow the right order. Get started with a dermatologist-approved serum followed by a moisturiser and then an effective sunscreen or a sunblock. Your make-up should be applied on top of your sunblock. Here are few things you should stop doing in your 20s so that you don t get wrinkles in your 40s.

Use antioxidants rich products: One way to compensate for the oxidative damage from pollution and sun is by replenishing your skin with antioxidant products. Choose skin care products that have antioxidants in them moisturisers, serums and sunscreens. Apply them every morning, even if you aren t going out in the sun. Read the labels before buying them if there is no mention of anti-ageing, it isn t your best bet. Don t forget to make cleansing milk and cleansing oil a part of your skincare routine they make your skin supple and soft unlike soaps and harsh face washes that robs the moisture from your skin.
