80% Immunity Against COVID-19 Lost Within 6 Months After Receiving Pfizer’s Vaccine Shot
Received your second dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine? A recent report has stated that over 805 of the total antibodies against the deadly coronavirus which is being produced by the Pfizer vaccine shot recedes or fades away within six months after receiving their second dose. The researchers studied the blood samples of 120 nursing home residents and 92 health care workers. According to the study, the researchers particularly looked at humoral immunity, also known as antibody-mediated immunity to calculate the body's total antibody resistance ability against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. "The study has found that individuals' antibody levels decreased more than 80 per cent after six months," one of the researchers was quoted as saying.
According to the researchers, by six months after vaccination with Pfizer's COVID-19 jab, the blood of 70 per cent of the people who were included in the study had a "very poor" ability to neutralize the coronavirus infection in laboratory experiments. A detailed version of the study is yet to get published as for the time being the research is based on a particular group of people who were fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus with Pfizer's vaccine shots.
Should You Still Get The Vaccine Shot?
Yes, experts over the months have stated that vaccines may not ensure no infection in the recipients but the ones who are getting vaccinated will not suffer the severe side effects of the infection and also reduces the need for hospitalization. Some of the possible side effects may include pain in the area of inoculation, fever or a slight change in body temperature, swelling, muscle pain, fatigue, etc.
Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine And Everything You Need To Know
Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against the novel coronavirus is produced by the USA. It was approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in December 2020. According to the previous studies, Pfizer's vaccine shot has 95% efficacy against the virus infection. The vaccine though may cause some side effects, was found safe with mild-to-moderate side effects. This is a two-dose vaccine that requires a gap of 21 days between each of the two doses.
