Jaisalmer, Feb 19: A 5-year-old boy died, while eight others were taken ill after they consumed suspected contaminated water from a well in Jaisalmer district,a health official said today. The incident took place yesterday at Baiteena village and the deceased was identified as Heer Singh, said Anil Gupta Block Medical and Health Officer. (Read: Tips to ensure pure drinking water)
Two of the eight seriously ill patients were referred to a government hospital in Jaipur, he said. Preliminary investigation revealed that people of Baiteena village in Sankara panchayat were using potable water from the well and that might be polluted to cause stomach disorder leading to diarrhoea, Gupta said.
