Running a marathon can get you really tired and exhausted. Here are a few useful tips that will help you recover from a long marathon run
1. Have a light meal
Don't have a heavy meal after you have completed the run. Have something light preferably fruits with an energy drink as it can prevent you from cramping, stomach pain and diarrhea. Have a large meal at least after 3-4 hours of running. Here are 10 nutrition tips for marathon runners.
2. Drink lots of water
Water is essential to replace the fluids you lost during the run to ensure that you are properly hydrated. Drinking cold water is the best option as it will help your body restore the temperature to the normal. You can also sip on fruit juices to hydrate yourself.
3. Cool down
Cooling down with stretches and kicks is also a must after the run. Running can cause your heart rate to abruptly slow down leading to dizziness and can also cause you to faint. To prevent this, make sure you do some stretching just like you warm up before the run.
4. Take a warm shower
It is natural to feel sweaty and uncomfortable after you have completed the marathon. Taking a warm shower after the run will help you relax your muscles preventing muscle soreness.
5. Continue with your workout and running
Do not stop exercising after a marathon run. You should continue with your walking and exercise for a few days for quick recovery.
