Washington, Jan 4 : Have all your efforts to lose those extra pounds failed so far? Dr Aaron Michelfelder, from the Loyola University Health System, highlights 5 things that you must be doing wrong, resulting in constant failure. (Read: Reduce belly fat in 20 ways and in 20 days)
Only exercising: Michelfelder says that only working out might not be an effective strategy; diet and eating fewer calories is also equally important. So, keep a track of how many calories you're consuming with every meal.
Sudden diet changes: Keeping a check on diet doesn't mean that you suddenly stop eating and subject yourself to crash dieting in an attempt to consume lesser calories. Avoid sudden or dramatic diet changes. Cutting down calories should be a gradual process.
Trying weight loss supplements: According to Michelfelder, weight loss supplements do more harm than good to your body. They not only reduce muscle weight than fat but also make you gain more fat than muscle mass eventually.
Lose weight quickly: Do not try to shed all those pounds at once or quickly. Try to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. It is a healthier and realistic strategy. It helps you maintain weight for a long period of time.
Don't give up: At times, your weight loss plan might not work out the way you desire but you need not despair. Losing 10% of your body fat if you are obese will improve your appearance. It will also improve your blood pressure, lower blood sugar levels, and keep many diseases like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at bay.
Dr. Michelfelder also said that following a structured programme to achieve weight loss goals is more effective. (Read: Weight loss tips for busy working professionals)
