5 good habits that help fight dengue and chikungunya

Follow these tips to keep your home mosquito free.

It goes without saying that good habits can go a long way in helping you stay fit and disease free. The same rule applies when it comes to fighting dengue and chikungunya. One of the common mistakes that most of us commit unknowingly is to leave buckets, water storage tanks, and matkas uncovered.It is better to cover any containers filled with water. Dengue and chikungunya mosquitoes can breed even in a teaspoon of water, hence make sure you throw away any excess water in the buckets or storage containers. It is a good idea to up turn these containers or turn these containers upside down when not in use to prevent breeding of mosquitos. (Find out common signs and symptoms of chikungunya)

Also, make sure your dust bin is covered 24X7 as open trash cans can attract mosquitoes.

Cover windows with netting or screening:

Make sure you cover windows and open doors with screens and/or nets. This will help in preventing mosquitoes from entering your house but also ensure proper ventilation, unlike keeping the doors and windows closed for long periods of time. Read more about the treatment of dengue fever.

Dengue/chikungunya mosquitoes usually can hide behind curtains and in dark corners of a room. Hence, check for the presence of mosquitoes at these places before you close doors and windows.To prevent mosquito bites, use household repellents like Good knight Activ + and Good knight Fast card.

Never let water stay in potted plants and AC/fridge trays:

If you have potted plants at home, then make sure you do not overwater these plants as excess water can act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Water collected in the cooler or AC and fridge trays should be emptied regularly to prevent dengue and chikungunya mosquitoes from breeding in your house.
