Pune city has detected as many as 26 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder can impacts the peripheral nerves in the human body. Three major hospitals in Pune have alerted the health authorities about the unusual rise in cases pertaining to GBS. According to news reports, cases have been detected from Sinhagad Road, Dhayari and surrounding localities.

As defined by the Journal Medical News Today, Guillain Barre Syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder which attacks body's peripheral nerves. The immune system attacks the nervous system leading to symptoms like tingling, numbness and muscle weakness. This disorder is dangerous and can even lead to paralysis. However, correct and timely treatments can help people recover completely.
5 Major Symptoms Of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
According to experts, the severity of GBS can range from very mild to severe. Depending on the severity of the condition, other symptoms may include:
Paralysis of your legs, arms and/or facial muscles. In severe cases, you may experience near-total paralysis.
Deep muscular pain in your back and/or legs.
Difficulty moving your eyes and vision issues.
Chest muscle weakness, which can make it difficult to breathe. This affects about 1 in 3 people with GBS.
Difficulty speaking and swallowing (dysphagia).

This disorder can start with very mild symptoms like weakness or tingling in the legs which can later spread in the body. If it becomes severe, it can cause paralysis.
Symptoms can progress from few days to weeks.
It can lead to muscle weakness and in some rare cases the patient may find it difficult to breathe mechanical support.
The cause may be triggered due to an infection but it has not been clearly specified by experts.
Most people recover from this conditions in weeks of few months.
