A 25-year-old civil services aspirant allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the building where his study circle was located at Narayan Peth on Thursday morning.
The police have identified the deceased student as Ramdas Asaram Gaikwad of Parbhani. He was residing with his brother at a rented flat in Navi Peth. The Vishrambaug police have registered a case of accidental death and sub-inspector Navnath Rangad is probing the incident.
Inspector (crime) Rajendra Sawant of Vishrambaug police station said, "Ramdas completed his graduation in arts from Parbhani and was preparing for civil services exams for the past four years."
He was to appear for the sales tax officers entrance examination to be held next Sunday and was studying at Marathi Grathalaya in Narayan Peth while his brother was preparing for NET and SET examination at the same centre.
"The incident took place around 7.30 am when the study centre was opened and the watchman was busy cleaning the room. Prima facie information gleaned suggests that Ramdas went to the third floor and jumped off the building. The watchman heard the noise and came running downstairs and found him lying in a pool of blood. We were alerted and Ramdas was rushed to Poona Hospital but was declared brought dead. We have not recovered any suicide note but have come to know that he was fed up of not being able to clear competitive exams," said Sawant.
The police officer said that the post-mortem report reveals that the death was caused due to multiple body injuries.
