The collective team efforts of Neurosurgery and Gynaecology department of Noida based Jaypee Hospital gave a gift of life to two lives the 23 year old mother and the 30 week old premature baby. The departments not only performed the surgery on the mother to cure her disease but also successfully delivered the baby way before the stipulated time for a delivery. The surgery was performed recently by Dr. Vishal Jain, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery and Dr. Sandeep Chaddha, Executive Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of Jaypee Hospital.
Himanshi, 23, a resident of Aligarh was having severe headache for which she consulted the doctors in Aligarh. In a CT scan report it was found that Himanshi had bleeding inside her brain (Brain hemorrhage). Thus, she was referred to Jaypee Hospital for proper management.
Explaining about the case Dr. Vishal Jain, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery Department, Jaypee Hospital said, When Himanshi came to Jaypee Hospital, her condition was very critical. She was suffering from INTRA CRANIAL HEMATOMA (bleeding inside her brain) which could have been fatal if not treated timely. After doing all the required tests for the surgery we got to know that she was 7 months pregnant as well. Thus, the surgery became all the more critical as now we had to save two lives.
Dr. Sandeep Chaddha, Executive Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, Jaypee Hospital said, After I got to know about this case, Dr. Vishal and I together discussed it and decided to perform the surgeries in one go. Before the surgeries, we kept the patient under observation for 12 hours and gave steroids so that lungs of the baby can get mature. First, I performed the C- sec surgery as it was a premature delivery and later Dr. Vishal Jain performed his surgery. (Read: How to take care of your premature baby at home)
Dr. Vishal Jain further added, After Dr. Chaddha successfully did her surgery, I performed Craniotomy and Evacuation of Hematoma surgery. The patient had the bleeding in right side of her brain which was operated in about 2 hour surgery. Both the surgeries took around 3 -4 hours. Read about the dangers of premature birth.
We are really thankful to the team of doctors at Jaypee Hospital. I had lost all my hopes that my child will be saved too. All I wanted was my wife to be saved at any cost - be it of my child. When doctors here told me that my child can also be saved I was elated and finally the doctors here did what they had committed. Today, my wife is also out of danger and we are blessed with a daughter, said Himanshi s husband.
