21,639 children vaccinated in the second round of Mission Indra Dhanush in Ghaziabad

The district health department along with UNICEF and WHO, launched the third round of an immunisation programme for children and pregnant women here on Saturday, the district immunisation officer said. Read: Mission Indradhanush begins today, aims at immunising all children below 2 yrs

The programme, named Mission Indra Dhanush, would deal with diseases like tuberculosis, hepatitis and polio. Addressing media persons at the district chief medical officer's office, immunisation officer Vishal Singh said the international agencies -- UNICEF and WHO -- selected 201 districts from across the country for the vaccination programme.

Out of 201 districts, 40 districts fall in Uttar Pradesh. The programme would last for seven days and would be administered to children from age zero to two years.

In the first round, which started on April 1 this year, 22,546 children were vaccinated. A total of 21,639 children were administered vaccination in the second round which started on May 1. Officials from UNICEF and WHO also attended the press conference.
