New Delhi, Jan 9: The capital, Delhi is looking forward to two additional multi-speciality hospitals set up under the Delhi health department will begin operations later this year, announced a senior officer.
'The hospitals, located at Burari (in north Delhi) and Ambedkar Nagar (in south Delhi) will be functional from November,' the official told IANS.
According to the health department, the 200-bed Burari hospital is a Rs.100crore project while the Ambedkar Nagar hospital, also of 200 beds, is a Rs.125 crore project.
'The hospitals will have special facility departments for neurology, gynaecology and pediatrics,' the official said and added that the projects initially got delayed but the construction work was speeded up and will be completed in the next two three months.
Also in a bid to reduce the burden of patients going to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Safdurjung hospital for treatment, a 700-bed hospital at Dwaraka in west Delhi is under construction and will take another one year to be functional.
The hospital will be named 'Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi' hospital and is a Rs.570 crore project. It will also have a medical college started after a few years of its inception.
He added that a multi-speciality hospital was planned at Sarita Vihar but as the project has not been granted the environment clearance so the project has got delayed.
'Several other health projects are in the pipeline like a hospital each in Madipur and Jwalapuri of West Delhi. But due to the absence of any government (in Delhi) for the last one year, the projects could not be executed,' the official said.
As part of the renovation of the existing facilities in the hospital under Delhi government, the health department has also provided 45 dialysis beds with machines to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital in east Delhi, and Lok Nayak hospital in central Delhi.
'Also the health department is reviewing the number of residents in all its hospitals and will accordingly take steps if any discrepancies are found,' he said.
