Many of us have mixed feelings about the lead and MSG found in Maggi. On the one hand, it is serious if it is true, while on the other hand, we have all eaten Maggi and lived to tell the tale so we wonder whether it can really be that bad. We can t help the nostalgia
That 4.00 am bowl of comfort during exams or other too-busy-to-have-anything-else days
The first thing I learnt to cook moment
The lack of guilt during a noodle binge after vegetable atta or 'oats' noodles came into our lives
The warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from hearing Maggi chahiye mujhe abhi!
That s the thing really, we don t believe in our hearts that Maggi can be all bad. We want to console ourselves by thinking of other things that are or are not equally bad like:
We eat MSG all the time in Chinese food!
What about the lead pencils we chewed as kids?
Alcohol and smoking are also bad, we don t see a government crackdown on that!
Has anybody checked the lead in our drinking water?
What about those cheap Chinese kids toys with lead?
Probably I am immune to all that bad stuff by now...
And then there is FEAR. Real fear of having eaten Maggi all your life. Who is to blame for that? So we promptly accuse the stars who endorsed Maggi of not caring about our health or the health of our children. We also realise that they did not force us to buy Maggi or eat it or feed it to our kids.

So it all comes down to GUILT. We are guilty of being lazy and not wanting to spend more than 2 minutes to cook. We all know that it takes more than 2 minutes to make, and that it takes just as much time to fix a salad or sandwich. Somehow, interestingly, our collective psychologically makes us buy into the 2-minute theory, it makes us believe that this is a wholesome meal, and it makes us crave Maggi at least once a month.
But, now that Maggi is off the shelf, what does that mean for you?
