In a shocking turn of events, a one-year-old infant from Bihar reportedly bit a cobra to death after it coiled around his tiny hands. The infant who is identified as Govinda was reportedly playing at his home in the small town of Bettiah near the Indo-Nepal border.
The child's grandmother was reported telling local news, "When we saw the snake in the child's hand, everyone rushed towards him, but in the meantime, he already bit the snake, killing it on the spot."
Following the incident, one-year-old Govinda fainted and was immediately rushed to a primary health care centre for initial treatment and was later transferred to the town's Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
Dr. Saurabh Kumar, treating the infant, tells a leading media outlet that they were able to save Govinda due to timely action, as the venom's effects were mild, only knocking him off.
"Timely treatment saved Govinda's life. The child's condition is currently stable, and treatment is being administered under the supervision of doctors. The medical team is treating the child, providing continuous medication, and he is under observation," Dr Kumar said.

Coming to the rescue, the WHO clarifies that, as compared to other serious health conditions, most snake bites can be treated with highly effective treatments which exist.
"Most deaths and serious consequences of snake bites are entirely preventable by making safe and effective antivenoms more widely available and accessible. High-quality snake antivenoms are the most effective treatment to prevent or reverse most of the venomous effects of snake bites," the WHO states.
