During periods, for some women, it literally becomes difficult to eat, sleep, sit, walk or do other everyday things that seem normal on other days. Young girls or women who face the torture of heavy bleeding accompanied by unbearable menstrual pain will know what I am talking about. Many women I know take help of the over-the-counter medications to soothe period pains. While some gynaecologists and obstetricians do prescribe the same to counter the pains, but an overdose of it, like popping more than two pills a day might not be healthy. This is why girls who have the problem of heavy bleeding and severe menstrual cramps are always looking for a natural remedy that can help them to deal with their pain.
One such remedy that I am going to share today is a simple and easy one. You don t need any herbs or bark of some tree to make this, just warm little water in a pan and pour it into a glass and you are good to go. Trust me; this is a tried and tested remedy which helped me through the troubled teen years to deal with menstrual cramps.
When I was faced with severe cramps all I did was heat some water in a pan, pour it into a glass and took small sips throughout the day. Warm or hot water helps to increase blood circulation and so improves the flow of the menstrual blood thereby reducing the episodes of cramps and pains. So if you are suffering from heavy periods despite having warm water this could mean that you have to keep changing pads regularly. Another benefit of this remedy is that it helps your body to flush out toxins and keep you hydrated during those days. Hydration is important during those days as you lose too much blood.
However, when I tried to get a more scientific reason why warm water was beneficial during menstruation, I didn t find any study that could support this remedy. But this question was asked on Quora where it was answered by Dr Rekha Rajendra Kumar, Infertility specialist and gynaecologist. She says that Drinking hot or cold water, even ice cold water has no bearing on the menstruation. The temperature of the drink has nothing to do with a physiological (normal) phenomenon. Neither the pain intensity, duration of flow nor the quantity of bleeding has anything to do with the temperature of water. Whatever is the temperature of water one drinks, it equalises with the core body temperature in a matter of few minutes. If one feels comfortable with hot or lukewarm water, they can consume the same just to get some mental relief as they are already stressed out with pain. However, drinking hot water is not compulsory nor does it reduce the pain.
So, according to doctors, warm water might not be the ideal way to treat pain relief and cramps but if you are suffering from the same I suggest giving this a try maybe like me you might get some relief with this remedy. I had a lot of people tell me the opposite, the say cold water helps better in dealing with menstrual cramps than hot water. So, I would suggest before you buy my remedy try sipping cold water and see what works better for you.
