बॉलीवुड की मशहूर और सीनियर कोरियोग्राफर सरोज खान ने कहा कि कास्टिंग काउच न केवल फिल्म जगत में फैला हुआ है बल्कि सभी क्षेत्रों में व्याप्त है। अपनी बात रखते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि कम से कम यह इंडस्ट्री रोटी तो देती है। सांगली में एक समारोह के दौरान सरोज ने कहा, "क्या मैं आपको एक चीज बता सकती हूं? यह बाबा आदम के जमाने से हो रहा है। यह अभी शुरू नहीं हुआ। कोई न कोई किसी लड़की का फायदा उठाने की कोशिश करता है। सरकारी लोग भी ऐसा करते हैं। तो फिर आप फिल्म जगत के पीछे क्यों पड़े हो?"
उन्होंने कहा, "यह कम से कम रोटी तो देता है। यह आपका फायदा उठा कर आपको छोड़ तो नहीं देता। यह लड़की पर निर्भर करता है कि वह क्या करना चाहती है। अगर आप ग़लत हाथों में नहीं पड़ना चाहती तो आप नहीं पड़ेंगी। अगर आपके पास कला है तो आपको खुद को बेचने की क्या जरूरत? फिल्म जगत का नाम मत लीजिए।"
इस टिप्पणी का वीडियो मंगलवार को सोशल मीडिया पर वायरल हो गया।
हालांकि बाद में सरोज खान ने इस बयान के लिए माफी मांग ली।
सरोज ने न्यूज़ एजेंसी आईएएनएस को बताया, "जो भी सवाल था, आप नहीं जानते..आप सिर्फ मेरा जवाब जानते हैं। इसलिए यह गलत लग रहा है। खैर छोड़िए मैं माफी मांगती हूं।"

लेकिन मामला यही ठंडा नहीं हुआ। सरोज के बयान के बाद लोगों ने उसपर अपनी प्रतिक्रियाएं देनी शुरु कर दी। ऑनलाइन लोगों ने ट्वीट कर सरोज खान को भला-बुरा कहना शुुरु कर दिया।:
