Rheumatoid arthritis refers to a type of auto-immune disorder that primarily targets the joints but can affect other body parts as well. In an auto-immune disorder, the body s tissues are treated as foreign and attacked by its defence mechanism. The causes for the disease are still not completely known and there are no known cures. Surgery and drugs can usually alleviate the symptoms and slow down the spread of the disease.
