Passive smoking or second-hand smoking refers to inhaling smoke from other people s cigarettes, cigars, pipes, etc. Second-hand smoke causes serious cardiovascular and respiratory diseases including heart attacks and lung cancer. It s particularly harmful for infants and pregnant women. It causes about 600,000 deaths every year. In children it s known to cause developmental disorders as well. According to WHO, there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke. Only by creating 100% smoke-free environments can we protect people from the risk of second hand smoke.
