Migraine is a type of headache. The most characteristic feature of migraine is that it is episodic (occurs anywhere from once or twice a year to several times a month) in nature associated with accompanying symptoms like vomiting, blurring of vision etc. Some patients may get headaches more frequently, almost daily. The exact causes of migraines are unknown, although they are related to blood vessel contractions and other changes in the brain as well as inherited abnormalities in certain areas of the brain. It can be triggered by various food items, unpleasant smells, hormonal changes, loud noises, physical or emotional stress, weather and exercise.
