We have all been stuck in traffic crawling at the pace of a snail or had a close shave with another car. Some people cuss and swear and others step out of their car and pick a fight. Even if you are able to control your temper, you may still be seething inside. While you really cannot get wings and fly to skip traffic or get people to drive better, you can always do a few calming practices and control your road rage. Here are a few things you can do to calm down and drive in peace.
Before you get out of your home, do these:
Shaktichalini mudra: This mudra helps you overcome lethargy, anger and frustration. Sit in padmasana, Inhale air forcibly and hold a tight mula bandha. Close the right nostril with the right fingers (shanka mudra). Now swallow the air like you are swallowing food and push it towards the naval. Do this swallowing 4 to 5 times. Here are reasons why anger is bad for your health.
Unmami mudra: This mudra when performed helps to calm the mind and deepen the meditative state, helping beat stress and its related disorders. Sit in padmasana and concentrate on the area between your eyebrows (also known as the third eye). Try to clear the mind of any other thoughts and focus on this point alone.
When you are stuck in traffic do these:
Deep breathing: Just focus on your breath and take 5-6 long, deep breaths. As you breathe in count 5 and then again 5 to exhale. After you have taken one or two long breaths, try to make the exhale longer than your inhale.
Mushthi mudra: This is another mudra that helps in releasing pent-up emotions like suppressed anger, frustration, irritation and negative emotions. Clench your hands into a fist, keeping your thumb on the other fingers, and hold this asana for five to ten minutes for relief.
Ksepana mudra: This mudra s primary function is to help you let go . This mudra helps beat depression, release pent up negative energies and toxins from the body. Put your palms together, making sure that all five fingers together. Now keeping your index fingers together and bend all the other fingers such that they are intertwined. Now point this mudra downwards to see a remarkable difference. Here are 7 ways to deal with anger and keep calm at your workplace.
