Do you get excited seeing those exotic fruits blueberries, dragon fruit, kiwi, passion fruit and such lined up on the supermarket shelves and put them in your cart out of sheer excitement? Well, it's fine! We all do that in the name of healthy living and clean eating. Here are 10 ways to change your food habits and prevent cancer.

But do you really think you are benefitting from these exotic goodies? Yes, you are, but not as much as you believe. While there is no harm in eating those exotic fruits, but one should also eat local produce with equal enthusiasm. Our body needs the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are available in our local produce more than what we get from exotic fruits and vegetables, says Bhavi Mody, Vrudhi Homeopathy and Wellness Centre. Here are six exotic fruits that you get in Indian markets.

'Nature bestows us with foods needed to strengthen our immunity, depending on various factors the climatic conditions, the nutrients required to fight environmental viruses and bacteria and the needs of a particular race and culture. Our bodies might not register the antioxidants and vitamins that we consume with the exotic produce, however, we will still gain some of its benefits when we eat them regularly, says Mody. So, should you stop eating them altogether?

No, if you can afford them and enjoy their taste, you can still eat them. If we get to enjoy a steady supply of these produces for decades our third generation will be the ones benefitting from these exotic fruits and vegetables for sure. It is because by then our bodies will be more accepting towards the antioxidants that come from these exotic produce, says Mody.

What you should do

  • If you like having exotic fruits have one portion of it and two portions of local fruits to create a better balance of your nutrient intake.
  • Don t make exotic fruits your only source of fruit intake, the same rule applies to vegetables too.
  • Make exotic fruits and vegetables your indulgence, not daily food preference.
