Regardless of how well you slept in the night, a few minutes on the yoga mat can always make you feel more relaxed and energised. But if you have been confused on whether you should perform the sitting, sleeping or standing asanas first, celebrity yoga expert Abhishek Sharma tells you how you should do it. While there is no hard and fast rule or a way to sequence your yoga poses, it can be best to proceed in a logical step-by-step direction. The ideal way to perform the poses would be to move from the less challenging to the more difficult and then come back to the less challenging poses. However, it becomes a must to ensure that you start with simple warm up stretches so that it becomes easier for you to get into the challenging poses with ease. Here s an example:

You can begin with a simple breathing exercise like anulom vilom pranayam and them warm up your body with light stretches. Perform standing postures like uttanasana and trikonasana and then move on to arm balances like ardha chandrasana and vasisthasana. Then go ahead with the inversions like shirshasana and sarvangasana and perform backbends like setubandhasana and ardha chakrasana. Then do the twists like the ardha matsyendrasana and lying down body twisting asana. End your yoga session with a relaxation pose like shavasana. The yoga poses are typically performed once but you can also perform the yoga poses two to three times.

Another way to sequence your yoga session is to build the entire series just around one posture. For example, you can if you are focusing on the downward facing dog position or adho mukho svanasana, you can perform other asanas the-legged downward position, kumbhakasana, and then come back to the downward dog position. End it with a relaxing pose.
